The move that changed everything
In 2009, Navin arrived in Australia with nothing but ambition.
No network. No safety net. No contacts in a new country. Just a decision — that Australia was where he was going to build his life, and that he was going to make something of it.
He did. Over the years that followed, Navin built a senior project management career that most people would call a success by any measure. Six-figure income. Stability. A clear path forward. The kind of professional trajectory that most people spend their working lives trying to reach.
He walked away from it anyway.
I chose discomfort over comfort — deliberately. I left a six-figure job because I knew that the ceiling of a career was never going to be the ceiling of what I could build.
That decision — to trade security for possibility — is the foundation on which GRIT was built. Not as a philosophy borrowed from a business book, but as a lived experience that shaped every choice that followed.
Starting GRIT with $6,000
Most businesses begin with a business plan. GRIT began with a conviction.
Navin had watched — up close, through years in senior roles and through his own property journey — how the advice industry worked. He had seen capable, intelligent people make poor property decisions. Not because they were careless. Because the advice they received was shaped by what the advisor had to sell, not by what the investor actually needed.
He had seen the pattern repeat: a single property in a single market, purchased because a commission structure pointed that way, with no strategy behind it and no one following up two years later to ask how it was performing. Investors left to figure out the next move alone.
I started GRIT because the firm I wanted to work with didn't exist. So I built it.
With $6,000 in hand — not a war chest, not a startup fund, just enough to begin — Navin launched GRIT Property Group. The model was clear from day one: strategy first, always. No property would be recommended until a strategy was built. No commission would shape the advice. No client would be left without a plan for what came next.
It was a harder model to build. It required more from the advisor and more from the client. But it was the only model that Navin believed would actually work — not for a single transaction, but for the kind of long-term wealth-building that changes a family's financial future.
Building the proof
Navin did not just advise clients to invest across multiple markets. He invested himself.
Today, Navin holds a personal portfolio of 31 properties across Australia, Dubai, and the United States — the same three markets he recommends to GRIT clients. Every market condition, every financing challenge, every property management decision, every equity calculation that GRIT strategists discuss in a client session is one that Navin has navigated personally.
I invest in the same markets I advise on. I have skin in every conversation we have with clients.
This matters because the most common question any investor asks — implicitly, even if they don't say it out loud — is: does this person actually believe in what they're recommending? The 31-property portfolio is the answer.
Australia. Dubai. The United States. Three markets. Three currencies. Three growth engines. The same three-market formula that GRIT has now helped more than 1,000 clients build their own version of.
$1 billion and what it means
In 2025, the total value of property transacted by GRIT clients crossed $1 billion.
It is a milestone worth acknowledging — but not because of the number. Because of what the number represents. It represents more than 1,000 individual decisions by real people to take their financial future seriously. Decisions made after a strategy session, a suburb analysis, a late-night question about borrowing capacity, a moment of hesitation that a GRIT strategist helped them work through.
Behind $1 billion in property is 1,000 families who made a move. Some bought their first investment property in a Melbourne growth corridor. Some bought a Dubai apartment from a living room in Brisbane. Some built a portfolio across three countries and three currencies without ever having considered that was possible.
The billion dollars is theirs — not ours. We are proud of the part we played in helping them get there.
Going global
In mid-2025, Navin made his second defining move: relocating to New York.
It was not a lifestyle decision. It was a strategic one. GRIT already had a presence in Dubai and an Australian founding office in Melbourne. The New York move completed the triangle — giving GRIT genuine on-the-ground leadership in all three markets the firm operates in, across three continents and three time zones.
This matters for clients because GRIT's advice on the US market is not sourced from a desk in Melbourne. It comes from a team that lives and works in the market — that knows the neighbourhoods, the lenders, the legal structures, and the management companies that make a US property investment work for an Australian investor operating remotely.
Melbourne. Dubai. New York. The same three markets Navin has invested in personally are now the three cities where GRIT is physically present.

The part we're most proud of — the GRIT Foundation
The GRIT Foundation
$2,000 from every GRIT transaction goes to building homes for underprivileged families in South East Asia.
This is the part of GRIT that Navin and the global team are most proud of. Not the $1 billion transacted. Not the 31-property personal portfolio. The families in South East Asia who have a roof over their heads because of a property deal done on the other side of the world.
The Foundation is not a marketing initiative. It is a commitment built into the business model — automatic, non-negotiable, and growing with every client GRIT helps.
Every time a GRIT client builds wealth, a family somewhere in South East Asia builds a home.
The GRIT Foundation was established on a simple principle: that building wealth and building community are not in conflict. Every time GRIT helps a client build financial freedom, a portion of that transaction is automatically redirected to building something more fundamental — shelter — for families who have none.
$2,000 from every GRIT transaction. Not a percentage. Not a discretionary donation. A fixed commitment, built into the business model, that scales automatically as the business grows.
South East Asia has some of the world's highest rates of housing insecurity. GRIT's Foundation partners build permanent homes — not temporary shelters — for families in genuine need. Families who will live in those homes for decades. Families whose children will grow up with something that most of us take for granted.
We measure our success not just by the portfolios we help build, but by the homes we help create for people who have nothing.
What this means for the people who work with GRIT
Navin's story is not told here to impress. It is told because context matters when you are deciding who to trust with decisions worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
When you sit in a Discovery Session with a GRIT Investment Strategist, you are working with a firm whose founder arrived in Australia with nothing and built a global portfolio across three countries. A firm that started with $6,000 and has now helped clients transact over $1 billion in property. A firm whose advisor recommends the same markets they personally invest in.
And a firm that, with every transaction it completes, contributes to building homes for families in South East Asia who have none.
That is the kind of firm GRIT is. That is the standard it holds itself to. And that is what 'the truth will set you free' actually means in practice — advice built on lived experience, transparent motivation, and a genuine commitment to outcomes that extend well beyond the commission.
